"Wonderful hotel wonderful five days holiday"
Can't recommend this hotel too highly. We love it and in fact are returning for a week in May with a good deal through Expedia and are so much looking forward to it. The hotel is very smart and glamorous and we were lucky enough to be given a comfortable spacious room with a marvellous bed and a lovely balcony facing the garden and sea in the distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the lovely downstairs brasserie is excellent and this can also be recommended for a good valued dinner in the evening if you are too tired to go out. It has a great location just a little bit away from all the bustle and facing the Old Port. There is the stunning and elegant glass fronted restaurant called "Le Mediterranee" on the top floor overlooking the lights of Cannes and the Mediterranean presenting an unforgettable dining experience. In fact it would also be spectacular for lunch as the view would be amazing. Not cheap but worth every euro!! The swimming pool for those who want to swim is gorgeous and overlooks again the sea and boats. Great photos from this fabulous rooftop area. Cannes is a good base for the whole of the South of France and the train station just a short walk though town takes you to all the major areas. We have been to several of them on a previous holiday and this time went to Beaulieu and Cagnes sur Mer for the day, but on the whole mostly strolled along the waterfront in the lovely sunshine having lunch under the umbrellas on the sand watching the boats. Buses just opposite the hotel take you to all the restaurants along the Croisette. If you turn right a few doors from the Sofitel and to be recommended is the charming "Le Madeleine" with white decor and white potted hydrangeas everywhere with an excellent set menu at an affordable price. A salad lunch in the garden of the Hilton hotel made an enjoyable relaxing time after a long beach walk and also dinner one evening in the second restaurant of the Hotel Martinez "Le Relais" again offering reasonable set menu prices with excellent food and excellent service. Any of the beach cafes and those on the sand attached to the hotels are delightful and the best way to while away the sunny days. Just opposite the hotel is the small cruiser that takes you to the island of St Marguerite and it makes a great day out on a sunny day. After a lovely sea trip in fifteen minutes you arrive at the island where you can do much walking, enjoy the old stone buildings, stroll along the waterside and have lunch at the beach cafe then back again to the Sofitel. I should also mention the wonderful boutiques for browsing or buying. Cannes has a lot to offer and I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
